I am a full-time ceramic artist, originally from Waitara in Taranaki, now living in Bell Block. My clay works come from the heart and are always respectful of Papatuanuku. My inspiration is our Maunga Taranaki and the landscapes of the North Taranaki coast.

I work from a large studio and retail shop located in the Bell Block Shopping Centre, just a short 5-minute drive from my home, which overlooks the beach.

Today my ceramic art is well known for the sculptural pots I make, with intricate textures, patterns and vibrant glazes in strong colours that I make myself.

The markings I create on my pots invite touch, and I enjoy seeing people running their hands over them. The textures often carry subtle references that are significant to me, as reminders of a certain place or time. I’m always looking for different objects to make textures with, and always have an eye on what patterns I could try on the clay.

I equally enjoy hand building and throwing on the pottery wheel. Most of my sculptural pots are a combination of throwing and coiling. Recent works are adorned with sprigs of leaves, celebrating our Ngahere. This series was a progression from a previous group of work "Tangaroa's Garden".

When it comes to glazes, I mostly make my own using earth oxides to give jewel colours like emerald, sapphire, topaz, and ruby. Colour is so important to me, these intense hues, combined with the interplay of glazes running, pooling, and blending together, add depth and an extra dimension to my pieces.
